My cats (2 neutered male littermates) are rolling in one of the litter boxes. I see no signs of aggression / territorial behavior towards one another related to litter boxes. I clean boxes daily so they are not totally full of waste but how can I stop the behavior (scent marking I assume)? I originally had 3 boxes for them, but when I first noticed the behavior, I turned one of the 3 boxes into a ‘rolling’ box by leaving just a small amount of litter in there (enough to roll in but not enough litter to be used for poop/pee). They used the ‘rolling’ box for a bit but now ignore it and are rolling in one of the boxes where they are doing their business.

I had a couple of cats that liked rolling in the litter boxes. Then I introduced them to different litter boxes which stopped it. Then eventually I purchased the litter robots and now have 3 litter robots and 3 cats. Changing boxes usually helps to stop them for laying in the boxes.

My vet has also told me this can be a display of anxiety related to the litter box. Check with your vet.
