My cat loves to watch bird, squirrel videos on U-Tube. Is this a potential problem. I only let her watch for 10 minutes and then I change the channel. She sits in Front of the TV with her full attention and ears us.

    Hi Michael

    That’s a great question!

Generally, short supervised viewing sessions of “Cat TV” are considered safe; however, if not managed properly, they may lead to potential issues.

Here are some risks associated with daily TV watching for cats:

⮚ Some cats may become agitated because they can’t catch the prey on screen. Look for signs like aggressive tail twitching, dilated pupils, pacing, or excessive meowing.

⮚ Other cats might become overstimulated and then redirect their frustration towards the TV, other pets, or people.

⮚ A cat may try to pounce on or paw at the screen, which could damage the TV or, worse, injure itself.

⮚ Some cats can become fixated on watching for extended periods, neglecting playtime or meals.

To promote your cat’s well-being, it’s best to limit screen time to 10 minutes, three times a week. Never leave your cat alone while watching TV. Provide additional visual stimulation with a window lookout and, most importantly, engage in interactive play with a wand toy after TV time. This helps your cat satisfy their instincts to hunt, catch, and eat prey.

Enjoy your day with your kitty.
