My family and I adopted 2 B&W Tuxedo kittens (Brother/Sister) about a month ago. We also have an adult daughter who is severely handicapped. We have noticed that the kittens treat her differently than they do my wife and I. It’s almost like they can sense that she’s different — she doesn’t reach for them, actually pretty much ignores them. But they still come up and sniff her, and settle down next to her.

Is it possible for these kittens to recognize her disability, and understand that she poses no threat at all? She will turn her head and watch them, and occasionally smile.

    Hi Steve

What an excellent question. Congratulations on bringing home your adorable B&W Tuxedo kittens—they’re lucky to have such a loving home!

Cats have a unique perspective on the world that differs from ours. They don’t perceive disabilities like humans do; instead, they see the essence of a person. They aren’t judgmental either. Their ability to observe and adapt allows them to connect deeply with their owners and family members, regardless of any challenges.

Cats are incredibly intuitive and empathetic creatures. They have a remarkable capacity to adjust their behavior based on your energy and needs. They provide unconditional love, comfort, and companionship, enriching our lives in countless ways. Your new kittens will undoubtedly bring joy and strengthen the bond with your daughter, and they might even surprise or teach you a few things about yourself you didn’t know.

Sending love & healing from our Tuxedo clowder to yours
