  • Neighbor’s aggressive cat won’t leave my apartment!

Posted by Jack on June 3, 2026 at 12:08 pm

    Hi

My neighbor’s cat ran into my apartment when I was leaving. It’s a very aggressive cat and now is hiding in my back bedroom. Unfortunately my neighbor is in the hospital. I am feeding and watering it, and it uses the litter box, but hisses angrily any time I get close and has swiped at me several times.

How would I go about getting the cat safely out of my apartment without causing it major trauma?

I do like cats a lot but this one really scares me.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jack

I’m sorry to hear about your neighbor’s situation, and its so kind of you to care for the cat during this challenging time.

If you need to encourage an angry cat to leave your bedroom or apartment, one of the best ways is to offer some treats. Tossing a few freeze dried cat treats or even some dry food can work wonders. You might also consider placing some strongly scented food, like canned tuna or roast chicken, near the front door to draw him out.

If that doesn’t entice him, you could try using a laser toy or tossing a mouse or ball for him to chase, as playful distractions can often help calm them down.

If nothing seems to work, please don’t hesitate to reach out to animal control or local animal services for assistance. They can provide the help needed to ensure everyone stays safe and well-cared for.

    I hope that helps.
