Our dear boy, Odin, has cancer and large open wounds on his head and neck. We have to keep him in a cone much of the time to prevent him from scratching and tearing open his sores. We’ve been using anti-slip infant socks taped secure with vet wrap. Not an ideal solution, but gives him a break from the cone and helps allow him the pleasure of grooming.

Anyone have other ideas or know of cat-specific booties that are effective and stay on? We don’t want to leave them on too long or his feet may swell, even thought the warp is stretchy.

    Any thoughts/suggestions welcome!

    Thank you!

    Hi Jim,

I’m sorry to hear about your kitty with cancer. I haven’t encountered many cats that will tolerate actual booties and cats just being cats, I worry about how to safely secure something like that on their feet without causing some kind of problem. But I have found success with clients utilizing nail caps, like Soft Claws or even the Whisker City brand from PetSmart has been fine. I’ve recommended them for cats with wounds or dermatitis where they’re able to get to them with their back feet especially. They’re not too difficult to apply at home, but two vet clinics I’ve worked at will apply them for a small fee, you just have to purchase the nail caps yourself. When applied properly, they will fall off after a few weeks as the nail grows out.
